Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng<\/strong> is preparing to launch its new SUV model, the G7<\/strong>, and with it, an advanced head-up display (HUD) technology<\/strong> called “Light-Chasing Panoramic Display<\/strong>.” This innovative system, developed in collaboration with Huawei<\/strong>, promises a much more sophisticated augmented reality (AR) experience<\/strong> than traditional HUDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Light-Chasing Panoramic Display<\/strong>, co-developed with Huawei<\/strong>, offers an AI-powered augmented reality (AR) experience<\/strong> that surpasses conventional HUD systems. Unlike many traditional HUDs that merely display information like speed or song titles, this new system in the G7 projects layered graphics directly onto the road, within the driver’s immediate field of vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new HUD was recently showcased at a media event in China. It covers almost the entire windshield, equivalent to an 87-inch ultra-large screen<\/strong> with a contrast ratio of 1,800:1<\/strong>. Images shared by the company demonstrate its ability to seamlessly integrate augmented reality into the driving experience, with layers projected directly onto the road ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While AR-powered HUD systems are not entirely new\u2014Mercedes-Benz, for example, has offered such a system in its S-Class models, which is still considered one of the most advanced\u2014Xpeng’s system appears to be both technically more advanced and will debut in a much more affordable vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Xpeng G7<\/strong> is expected to have a starting price of approximately 250,000 yuan (about $34,800)<\/strong> in China. While full technical details haven’t been released, it’s rumored to be offered with two different battery pack options. The entry-level version is said to feature a single electric motor producing 292 horsepower (218 kW)<\/strong>, with the vehicle capable of reaching a maximum speed of 200 km\/h<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
