As AI technologies<\/strong> continue to evolve rapidly, their energy consumption<\/strong> has been steadily increasing. Recent reports now suggest that AI may soon surpass Bitcoin<\/strong> \u2014 once heavily criticized for its environmental impact \u2014 in total energy usage. Some may recall that Elon Musk<\/strong> once announced that Tesla<\/strong> would accept Bitcoin (BTC)<\/a><\/em><\/strong> as payment, only to reverse the decision due to the high energy consumption<\/strong> of Bitcoin mining<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. According to Alex de Vries-Gao<\/strong>, a researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Environmental Studies<\/strong>, AI<\/strong> could consume up to half of the energy<\/strong> used by data centers<\/strong> as early as 2025<\/strong>. He warns that this should not be viewed as merely a technical issue; even ordinary individuals<\/strong> will be affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As AI energy demand<\/strong> grows, it will place a significant strain on global energy systems<\/strong>, potentially leading to outages and technical disruptions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, there is another major issue: lack of transparency<\/strong>. De Vries-Gao notes that his analysis is not definitive because companies do not openly disclose<\/strong> their AI energy consumption data.
