A bewildered Bitcoin investor<\/strong> accidentally threw away a wallet now worth 700 million dollars<\/strong>, and he now wants to buy the landfill<\/strong> to dig it out by hand<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Howells, a British IT worker<\/strong>, mined over 7,500 Bitcoins<\/a><\/em><\/strong> back in 2009<\/strong>. At that time, when Bitcoin was mined like crazy but had very little value, his entire collection wasn’t even worth 10,000 dollars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crypto miner<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, who stored his mined Bitcoins on a hard drive<\/strong>, accidentally discarded<\/strong> the wrong drive years later, mixing it up with other old hard drives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he recently decided to cash out<\/strong> his Bitcoins \u2014 which have now skyrocketed to 700 million dollars<\/strong> \u2014 he realized he had thrown away<\/strong> the very hard drive he thought he had safely kept for 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Howells now wants to buy the massive landfill<\/strong> where the hard drive was discarded. In a desperate attempt to recover his fortune, he plans to sort through thousands of tons<\/strong> of trash by hand to find the tiny drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding a 10-centimeter hard drive<\/strong> buried somewhere in 15,000 metric tons<\/strong> of waste perfectly fits the saying: “like looking for a needle in a haystack.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the city administration<\/strong> believes that the plan is practically impossible, reminding everyone that a large portion of the waste accumulated over the past 15 years has been buried underground<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, if Howells’ plan were to be approved, the city would need to find a new landfill site<\/strong>, something that doesn\u2019t sit well with city officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also already existing plans to transform the current landfill into a solar energy farm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, unless Howells manages to gain public support<\/strong> and convince<\/strong> the authorities, he won\u2019t be allowed to search for the hard drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, this incident has already gone down in history as one of the greatest tragedies<\/strong> in the world of cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
