OpenAI<\/strong> has officially announced that it will discontinue API access<\/strong> to its GPT-4.5 model<\/strong> as of July 14<\/strong>. The company is now recommending the recently launched GPT-4.1<\/strong> model as a replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to OpenAI, developers will still be able to use GPT-4.5 via the API<\/strong> until July 14<\/strong>. After that date, the model will only remain available to ChatGPT<\/a><\/em> Plus users<\/strong> as a research preview<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GPT-4.5, developed under the code name “Orion”<\/strong>, was introduced in February. It was trained with more data and greater computing power than its predecessors and was particularly notable for its ability to write convincingly and generate persuasive content. However, the model failed to meet expectations<\/strong> in certain industry benchmarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OpenAI confirmed that GPT-4.5 had extremely high operational costs<\/strong>, pricing it at $75 per million input tokens<\/strong> and $150 per million output tokens<\/strong>\u2014making it one of the most expensive models<\/strong> offered by the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
