Bitcoin (BTC)<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0cryptocurrencies<\/strong>\u00a0continue to attract the attention of\u00a0governments<\/strong>\u00a0worldwide. In\u00a0Brazil<\/strong>, a member of the House of Representatives has drafted a bill to create a\u00a0Bitcoin reserve<\/strong>. This bill proposes establishing a national\u00a0Bitcoin reserve<\/strong>\u00a0that would account for 5% of the South American country’s international reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Nov. 25<\/strong>, Eros Biondini<\/strong>, a member of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies<\/strong> from the Liberal Party<\/strong>, submitted a bill to the federal legislature to create a BTC<\/strong> reserve called the Sovereign Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (RESBit)<\/strong>. According to the bill, RESBit<\/strong> will account for 5% of the country’s international reserves and diversify its assets. Biondini<\/strong> argues that this reserve will also support DREX<\/strong>, Brazil’s central bank digital currency (CBDC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draft law stipulates that\u00a0RESBit<\/strong>\u00a0will be managed jointly with the\u00a0Central Bank of Brazil<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Ministry of Finance<\/strong>, and that it will be stored in\u00a0cold wallets<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0that are not connected to the internet for increased security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the text of the draft law, Biondini<\/strong> explains the strategic importance of establishing RESBit<\/strong> in the following words: “The establishment of RESBit<\/strong> is a strategic measure that positions Brazil<\/strong> at the forefront of the new digital economy<\/strong>, reduces economic risks, and expands opportunities for technological and financial development.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of the bill includes efforts to increase financial literacy<\/strong> for digital assets<\/strong>. Accordingly, training programs will be organized to inform the public about digital assets<\/strong>, especially cryptocurrencies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brazil<\/strong>\u00a0has entered the world of\u00a0digital assets<\/strong>\u00a0with its\u00a0CBDC<\/strong>,\u00a0DREX<\/strong>. Additionally, the country is conducting studies on\u00a0artificial intelligence<\/strong>\u00a0technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
