The Open Metaverse Alliance (OMA3) has been established to address industry interoperability challenges within the Web3 and blockchain-based Metaverse platforms.
Comprised of stakeholders from various industries, OMA3 aims to propose standards and foster collaboration. The alliance operates on four fundamental principles: transparency, inclusiveness, decentralization, and democratization.
Open Metaverse Alliance
The collaborative effort to establish OMA3 involved eight organizations: Alien Worlds, Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, Space, Superworld, The Sandbox (SAND), Upland, and Voxels. The alliance’s primary objectives include overcoming interoperability challenges, proposing standards, and facilitating collaboration among stakeholders in Web3 and related industries.
OMA3 intends to adopt a transparent and user-centered governance model, functioning as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). Members of the alliance plan to actively engage in the Metaverse Standards Forum and coordinate efforts to develop and support existing Metaverse-related standards. Additional details about OMA3 will be disclosed during the Global NFT Summit in London.
Metaverse Standards Forum
The Metaverse Standards Forum has been established as a collaborative effort to counteract centralization in the burgeoning Metaverse sector.
This initiative brings together several companies with the aim of fostering open collaboration and establishing standards to propel the Metaverse’s widespread adoption. The forum will focus on practical projects to accelerate the adoption of Metaverse standards, formulate distribution guidelines, and emphasize the development of open-source tools.
Scheduled to convene its inaugural meeting in July, the Metaverse Standards Forum encourages the active participation of founding companies and extends an open invitation to all organizations, free of charge.
The forum seeks to establish consensus-based collaboration among diverse companies to delineate the requirements and priorities for Metaverse standards. Additionally, the initiative aims to solidify the position of the Metaverse sector by encouraging the prototyping of applications and fostering new projects.
