Venice Film Festival Announces Metaverse Initiative

The Venice Film Festival is venturing into the realm of virtual reality by launching two new projects, offering attendees their first experience of the Metaverse.

Those looking for entertainment within the Metaverse will have the chance to immerse themselves in its expansive landscape.

They will be able to partake in a range of quests to enhance their adventures. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to play various games. Furthermore, they can explore the world in a virtual space and even experiment with wearing different costumes.

Venice Film Festival Announces Metaverse World Venice Immersive

According to recent disclosures, Liz Rosenthal and Michel Reilhac are the brains behind the Metaverse program at the Venice Film Festival.

Set to launch from Thursday to Saturday, this program is anticipated to add a new dimension to the art of storytelling. Over the past two years, the Venice Film Festival has been collecting ideas, leading to the development of a virtual program that caters to the diverse interests of different audiences. Additionally, the return to Lazzaretto Vecchio marks a new phase of the program.

An encompassing title, “Venice Immersive,” has been adopted for this initiative. Reilhac explains that the focus extends beyond just VR technology, aiming to include a variety of elements that collectively create an immersive experience for users.

The program features about 43 projects, many of which only require VR devices to a limited extent. It also introduces a hybrid reality for most users. Venice Immersive is a hub for virtual events, ranging from aiding in the production of more CoCo Chanel products to participating in virtual reality gaming competitions. This edition is set to be the largest Venice Film Festival ever organized. The ultimate goal is to diversify the Metaverse world’s landscape to achieve more hybrid and varied results.

Virtual World Tour Will Take Place!

The most ambitious aim of the program is to take a select group of users on a virtual tour around the world.

Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to engage in various activities like socializing, playing golf, and exercising. A multitude of participatory activities are available, set within environments that replicate Venice’s physical landscape.

Furthermore, “Framerate Pulse of the Earth” will showcase the Metaverse’s potential to visitors, offering a glimpse into how the Earth has evolved due to human activities, including industrial operations. This will be facilitated by a collection of 3D scanning technologies, enhancing the landscape’s immersion and appeal.

The event will feature a dark room equipped with a large screen, serving as a holographic medium. This setup will allow participants to experience the Metaverse and enable spectators to view the virtual landscape.

The Venice Festival, committed to maximizing the immersiveness of every art form, is a community-centric organization.

Reilhac emphasized that the festival’s goal is to present a genuine art form that blends notable feature films with immersive art, rather than just a technological show.

However, the absence of a well-established market for true immersive art presents challenges for development. Reilhac noted that the creators behind Venice are driven by their curiosity and passion for art.
