Crystal Dynamics unveiled two new Tomb Raider titles, named Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst, at The Game Awards. These Unreal Engine 5-powered projects are set to meet players in 2026 and 2027.
Two new games that will excite Tomb Raider fans were announced on The Game Awards stage. Developed in partnership with Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, one of these projects will be Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. The second game was revealed as Tomb Raider: Catalyst.
The Original Game is Getting a Remake
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, scheduled for release in 2026, is a remake of the original game. Developed with Unreal Engine 5, Legacy of Atlantis promises to offer a completely renewed experience in terms of modern game mechanics and visual design. The game invites players, as Lara Croft, to explore exotic regions forgotten by time, traverse dangerous terrains, solve deadly traps, and collect pieces of the invaluable artifact known as the Scion.
The Journey Heads to India in the New Game
The second game is a completely new adventure, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, coming in 2027. This production focuses on the story of Lara Croft exploring North India. In Catalyst, ancient secrets revealed by a legendary cataclysm and the mysterious forces guarding these secrets await Lara. Players will attempt to uncover the hidden truth in an environment where famous treasure hunters from around the world are flocking to the region. As the ancient world collides with the modern world, Lara will have to decide who to trust among rivals and allies to prevent a disaster and protect a secret that could reshape the future.
There is no further information regarding the productions coming from Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios. Crystal Dynamics had announced in 2022 that they had started developing the next Tomb Raider game and would be using UE5. However, the studio subsequently made headlines with a series of layoffs. It appears that this restructuring process has not affected the Tomb Raider games.
Both games will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S platforms.
