Despite the recent departure of CEO Sam Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman, OpenAI continues to advance its projects. In this vein, the company has introduced a significant update to ChatGPT, its AI-driven chatbot. The latest enhancement allows free users of ChatGPT to interact with the bot using voice.
Previously, voice communication support was an exclusive feature available only to subscribers of the ChatGPT Plus plan. This enabled subscribers to pose questions and receive answers in spoken form.
Now, this voice interaction capability has been extended to all users of ChatGPT, free of charge. Despite Brockman’s departure, he highlighted that this development would significantly enrich the ChatGPT user experience.
It was announced with a meaningful post
The unveiling of ChatGPT’s voice communication feature for free users was marked by a significant message from the team, which included a short video on ChatGPT’s official X account demonstrating the feature in action. In the video, ChatGPT was asked:
“Our team has had a very long night, and we’re all quite hungry. How many 778 cm pizzas should we order for 40 people?”
This query, set against the backdrop of OpenAI’s workforce of approximately 800 employees, subtly conveyed the team’s exhaustion after a strenuous effort.
The announcement post for ChatGPT’s voice feature highlighted the pivotal roles of Sam Altman and Greg Brockman in reaching the current milestones with OpenAI and ChatGPT.
Thus, the departure of these key figures might herald changes in ChatGPT’s trajectory. However, understanding the full extent of their exit and its impact on ChatGPT’s future developments will require time.
