Scarlett Johansson Statement from OpenAI

OpenAI has clarified claims that the Sky voice in ChatGPT is similar to Scarlett Johansson’s. The company has denied these allegations entirely, stating that the voice that sparked the controversy belongs to someone else.

OpenAI, a leading player in the artificial intelligence industry, announced ChatGPT’s voice assistant features a while ago. Within the scope of this feature, voice assistants named Breeze, Cove, Ember, Juniper, and Sky are available to users. However, ChatGPT’s voice assistant, called Sky, has long been at the center of controversy.

Many people have suggested that this voice belongs to the world-famous actress Scarlett Johansson. Some claims even alleged that OpenAI trained an AI model using Scarlett Johansson’s original voice to create Sky. OpenAI has now issued a new statement addressing these claims.

Sky’s claim to be the voice of Scarlett Johansson has been denied

In a statement made today, OpenAI clarified that the allegations do not reflect the truth. OpenAI explained that their voice assistants use completely real people, and Sky is voiced by a professional voice actor. However, the company has not disclosed the identity of the Sky voice actor. Notably, OpenAI acknowledged the similarity between Sky’s voice and that of Scarlett Johansson.

According to OpenAI, the voice-over work started in 2023. The company formed partnerships with award-winning directors and producers for this project. OpenAI received over 400 applications during this process and advanced 14 candidates to the second stage, ultimately creating voice assistants with 5 of them.
