AI Vowed to Make Us Spend Money: Now Perplexity’s Shopping Feature Announced
Perplexity, one of the popular AI tools, has introduced its new shopping feature following OpenAI. So, what differences does this new feature offer compared to its competitors? Perplexity announced that it has begun offering a new shopping experience that makes online shopping more personal, fluid, and enjoyable, initially available for free to users in the US.
While traditional search boxes remain insufficient for product discovery, editorial lists are often shaped by the interests of advertisers rather than the reader. Perplexity, on the other hand, learns the user’s shopping style through chat-based search technology, remembers past searches, and offers a customized journey from discovery to the purchasing decision.
Shopping suggestions are much more personal. The new system enables users to shop with an AI that truly understands their needs. For example, in response to the question, “I commute by ferry, which winter coat is best for me?” it responds with suggestions that fit the user’s life exactly, rather than just popular products. Additionally, thanks to PayPal integration, the product selection, review, and payment process can be completed within a single fluid chat window.
Perplexity is creating a more efficient ecosystem not only for consumers but also for retailers. Although it cannot be used in our country yet, thanks to the PayPal collaboration, stores remain at the center of the transaction, can recognize their customers, and maintain full control over all relationships such as returns or loyalty programs. Furthermore, since users coming from the personalized chat flow approach shopping with higher intent, abandoned cart rates also decrease.
The company has stated that this new experience, currently usable via desktop and web, will soon be added to iOS and Android applications.
