Open Metaverse Alliance Targets Meta

The Open Metaverse Alliance (OMA3), which comprises notable members like Yuga, Dapper, and The Sandbox, has declared that it will not allow Meta to single-handedly dictate the future of the internet.

Following Meta’s acknowledgment that it cannot solely shape the future of the internet, the Open Metaverse Alliance has initiated efforts to create an interoperable Web3 world.

This alliance represents a collaborative effort to influence and guide the development of the next generation of the internet, emphasizing a shared and open approach.

Open Metaverse Alliance Officially Launched

The Open Metaverse Alliance (OMA3) was officially launched today, with Web3 developers identified and onboarded. This alliance, featuring prominent members like Dapper Labs and Yuga Labs, is set to function as an interoperable, blockchain-powered data repository.

The possibility of Meta designing a future data repository that is interoperable with Blockchain technology remains a subject of debate.

As a result, some Blockchain firms have sought to provide Web3 developers with an alternative, rather than compelling them to conform to a predetermined vision of the internet’s future. This initiative led to the formation of the Open Metaverse Alliance.

First announced in July, OMA3 has now officially opened, as declared at the Web Summit in Lisbon. The alliance has introduced memberships in two categories: sponsor and creator.

It has also established working groups tasked with developing standards across metadatabase platforms, examining legal protections in Web3, and undertaking other relevant initiatives.
