OpenAI has reinstated its paid subscription plan for the AI-powered chatbot ChatGPT. The subscription, known as ChatGPT Plus, had been temporarily closed to new members due to overwhelming demand.
Last month, ChatGPT, the world’s most widely used AI-powered chatbot, made a significant decision. As part of this decision, it was announced that the ChatGPT Plus subscription, available for $20 per month, would be temporarily paused, and new users interested in becoming subscribers would need to wait for a certain period.
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, issued a statement via his official X account, providing insights into the decision and explaining the reasons behind it. According to Altman’s statement, the introduction of new features with the ChatGPT Plus subscription had resulted in a surge in chatbot usage.
Altman highlighted that the system experienced a higher demand than OpenAI’s capacity could handle, leaving them with no alternative but to temporarily suspend new subscriptions.
Knot untied: ChatGPT Plus subscriptions reopened
Today, a new move came from Open AI. The team has reinstated ChatGPT Plus subscriptions. Users can re-own the more advanced version of ChatGPT by paying $20 per month.
Open AI’s closure of ChatGPT Plus subscription has become a source of income for opportunists. Some e-commerce platforms have even started selling the ChatGPT Plus subscription at jaw-dropping prices.
Above you see the clearest example of this. There were even times when a full £20 was requested for the service, which is normally priced at $428.
