NVIDIA has announced its collaboration with Chinese automakers to develop autonomous vehicles and AI-powered infotainment systems.
BYD, surpassing Tesla last year, secured the title of the world’s top-selling electric vehicle manufacturer. Both BYD and other Chinese automakers have garnered NVIDIA’s attention for their pursuit of autonomous vehicles and AI-powered systems.
NVIDIA has revealed that BYD’s new vehicles will incorporate a chip technology known as Drive Thor. This technology will not only enhance the vehicles’ autonomous driving capabilities but also support the development of additional digital features. Furthermore, BYD plans to integrate NVIDIA’s technologies into its manufacturing and procurement processes, as well as in the creation of virtual stores.
NVIDIA and BYD will work together
The Hyper brand, under the umbrella of Chinese automaker BYD, along with Xpeng and GAC Aion, are among the companies that have announced collaborations with NVIDIA. Similarly, Geely’s subsidiaries, Zeekr and Li Auto, have also declared their intention to utilize NVIDIA Drive Thor.
Collaborating with NVIDIA is seen as a strategy to enhance the prestige of Chinese manufacturers, who are perceived as less competitive in the market. Chinese manufacturers believe that leveraging NVIDIA’s advanced artificial intelligence tools and technologies can help them stand out.
NVIDIA, a leading entity in artificial intelligence systems, continues to broaden its investment horizons across various sectors. With announcements made at GDC 2024, the company has expanded its offerings in software development, content production, and beyond.
