Nissan is venturing into a new realm in the automotive industry by opening the doors to the virtual world. Announced on March 7, the metaverse experience, named “Heritage Cars & Safe Drive Studio,” offers a journey through history and a focus on safety, featuring immersive representations.

The company’s 90th anniversary. Celebrating the Anniversary is the Main Goal

According to Nissan’s press release, this studio showcases three iconic models to celebrate the company’s 90th anniversary, each set within detailed virtual environments that echo their respective eras. The first exhibit features the S13 model of the Silvia Q, renowned for its prominence in the drifting scene.

In this section, users can explore the vehicle and access safety-related information, notably on how the color of pedestrian clothing affects driver perception.

The second exhibit introduces a mini-game designed to enhance drivers’ understanding of field of vision and the impact of multitasking on driving safety. Also featured here is the Skyline 2000GTX-E, celebrated for its significant role in popular culture, including the Gran Turismo video game series and the Fast and Furious film franchise.

Practical Steering Cycle Exercise

The final exhibit transports users to the United States of the 1950s and 60s, offering an environment reminiscent of a classic American diner and drive-in theater. This setting allows users to engage in practical steering practices.

These experiences were developed through collaboration with researchers from universities in Japan, building upon Nissan’s prior initiatives like the virtual test drive presented on the Meta Quest headset.

By taking this step, Nissan aligns itself with current technological trends. The growth in virtual and augmented reality applications, led by companies such as Meta and Microsoft, is opening new avenues in the automotive industry. With the launch of Apple’s mixed reality headset, it’s clear that competition in this field will intensify.

Nissan’s metaverse exhibitions not only showcase the company’s innovative spirit and reverence for its history but also play a role in enhancing drivers’ awareness about safe driving. It’s fair to say that such innovative endeavors hold promise for the future of the automotive industry.
