Midjourney has officially introduced and launched its first video generation model, V1. Users will now be able to convert images into 5-second videos. Shared examples demonstrate that V1 can produce impressive results.
The relentless pace of advancements in the field of artificial intelligence has led to the immense popularity of video generation models. While companies like OpenAI and Google compete in this domain, Midjourney has now made its move. The AI giant has officially unveiled V1, its first AI tool capable of generating videos.
Until now, Midjourney has been known for its image generation tool, but with V1, it aims to become a prominent name in video as well. The V1 model serves as a tool that converts images into videos. Looking at the shared examples, we can see that the results it provides are truly impressive. Videos ranging from 5 to 21 seconds can be created.
Users can utilize the V1 model by uploading an image. This image will then be animated and transformed into realistic videos. According to Midjourney, V1 will create 5-second clips. However, you will subsequently have the option to extend them 3 more times. With a total of four 5-second extensions, video clips of up to 20 seconds can be generated. Unfortunately, V1 lacks an audio feature, unlike Veo 3.
Users can create videos by either adding a random animation to the image or by describing what they want to see through text prompts. You can also specify details like the movement of the object and the camera. Looking at the videos shared for V1, we can see that, similar to the company’s other models, it generates impressive visuals that are both ultra-realistic and fantastic, appearing as if they’ve sprung from other worlds.
The V1 model, like other Midjourney tools, is accessible via Discord for users with a $10 basic subscription. The company aims for its new model to compete with tools like OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s groundbreaking Veo 3 model. The examples are quite impressive, but only time will tell if it can truly compete with them. Given the significant difference made by the audio feature, it seems unlikely to compete with Veo 3 at this moment.
