Meta Reduce The Commission to 47,5 percent on Metaverse

The commission Meta, Facebook’s umbrella organization, plans to charge for digital product sales in its virtual world, Horizon Worlds, has raised concerns among content producers.

According to a statement from a Meta spokesperson to CNBC, a commission fee of 47.5 percent will be deducted from sales on Horizon Worlds.

Initially, 30 percent of this commission will go through the Meta Quest Store, and the remaining 17.5 percent will be taken directly from Horizon Worlds.

While Meta executives describe this commission rate as “quite competitive,” the high cut of 47.5 percent is anticipated to significantly impact the profit margins of content producers.

This commission rate is notably higher than that of other platforms, such as the 2.5 percent commission on sales by the NFT marketplace OpenSea.

The situation is drawing attention, especially considering Facebook’s historical criticism of Apple’s 30 percent in-app sales commission. It remains to be seen how this commission structure will affect content creators on Horizon Worlds.
