Mercedes-Benz Files NFT & Metaverse Trademark Application

Mercedes-Benz has recently announced its entry into the NFT and metaverse realm by filing a trademark application that also encompasses crypto-asset trading.

This is not Mercedes-Benz’s initial foray into the cryptocurrency sector. In July, Daimler South East Asia, a division of the Mercedes-Benz Group, unveiled Acentrik, a data sharing network based on Ethereum Layer-2 scalability platform Polygon’s blockchain technology. Following the lead of BMW, Renault, and Nissan, Hyundai has now also ventured into the digital universe.

The rise in NFT and metaverse-related applications has been significant lately. According to recent reports, Mercedes-Benz disclosed its filing of a trademark application focused on NFTs and the metaverse.

In a related development, Hyundai Motor made automotive history in April by becoming the first car manufacturer to launch community-based NFTs. Subsequently, in May, McLaren Automotive partnered with MSO LAB to create unique, limited-edition McLaren NFTs.

Trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis shared details of the application on his official Twitter account. According to Kondoudis, the trademark applications for “Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes, S-Class, G-Class, and Maybach” cover a range of areas, including NFTs and the metaverse, digital currencies, retail stores, and crypto trading for virtual vehicle parts.
