Key Name of Meta’s Metaverse Software Leaves Company

Vivek Sharma, the Vice President of Meta’s Horizon Metaverse software division, has departed from the company. Sharma served in various roles at Meta for almost six years.


Meta’s Leading Name Resigned

Sharma, who recently departed from his position at Meta, was responsible for overseeing several VR initiatives, including the virtual reality-centric online game Second Life and Horizon Worlds. In a statement regarding his departure, a Meta spokesperson said:

“Under his leadership, the Horizon team has established a solid foundation with a bold vision, and this is just the beginning. Meta continues to be a breeding ground for exceptional leadership. We are eager to see what Vivek accomplishes in his next venture.”

The spokesperson also mentioned that the Horizon team will now report directly to Vishal Shah, Vice President of the Metaverse at Meta.

Meta views the metaverse, a digital world accessible through VR and other augmented reality technologies, as the next frontier in computing.

Furthermore, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed plans to launch a new VR headset in October.
