Increasing RAM on Android Phones Due to AI
As artificial intelligence continues to gain traction, there’s a growing need for smartphones to have increased memory capacity. It’s anticipated that phones boasting 20 GB or more of RAM will soon hit the market to accommodate the efficient operation of AI features.
The year 2024 is set to witness one of the key trends in smartphones focusing on the integration of artificial intelligence into these devices. Chipsets like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Dimensity 9300, and Exynos 2400 are being designed with powerful AI engines.
Reports have even indicated that Samsung intends to outfit its Galaxy S24 series with sophisticated artificial intelligence capabilities. Nonetheless, it’s clear that a significant amount of RAM will be crucial for supporting these AI functions on smartphones.
20 GB of RAM required for proper AI experience
According to a Twitter post by Revegnus, generating images with AI on a mobile phone currently demands 12 GB of RAM. With the inclusion of more AI functionalities, it’s projected that approximately 20 GB of RAM will be necessary for the phone to function efficiently. Given that the average RAM in today’s standard smartphones is around 8 GB, a significant boost in RAM capacity in the future is easily foreseeable.
In recent developments, the OnePlus Ace 24 Pro was launched, featuring 2 GB of RAM, which seems to be an error in the context as high-end phones typically equip 8 and 12 GB of RAM. It is thus anticipated that by 2024, the market will see the introduction of phones with larger RAM capacities, responding to the growing need for memory spurred by the deeper integration of artificial intelligence into smartphones.
