Humanoid Robot at Turkish Sports Giant Fenerbahçe Goes Viral for Wearing Rival’s Jersey

Major Turkish sports club Fenerbahçe has introduced a new high-tech employee at its official Fenerium merchandise store: a humanoid robot named “Jidoka.” The greeter robot quickly became a social media sensation, not just for its technology, but for the jersey it was wearing: that of Kerem Aktürkoğlu, a star player for arch-rival Galatasaray.

Humanoid robots, once the stuff of science fiction, are slowly becoming a reality, with tech companies worldwide developing advanced models. In a surprising move, the Istanbul-based Fenerbahçe sports club has brought this technology directly to its fanbase.

The robot was recently unveiled at the Fenerium store located in the club’s stadium, where it captivated fans with its lifelike movements and speech.

The robot, officially named “Jidoka Human,” is the work of LTC Robotic. According to the company, it is based on Unitree’s G1 model.

We can describe Jidoka Human as an “information and advertising” robot designed to quickly introduce visitors to a business’s services, products, and current promotions. It can make presentations with its speaking ability and attract people’s attention with its body movements. Its features include taking orders, providing directions, and greeting guests. The robot is available for purchase at a price of 3,735,552 TL (approximately $113,000).

Fenerbahçe has begun using the robot to offer a more interactive and technological experience in its Fenerium store. The robot, provocatively dressed in the Kerem Aktürkoğlu jersey while promoting new Fenerbahçe kits, interacted with fans by applauding, making supportive gestures, and speaking with them. It also answered fans’ questions.

Images of the robot, not just inside the Fenerium but also around the stadium, quickly went viral on social media. The stunt successfully captured the attention of not only Fenerbahçe supporters but the entire country.
