In a surprising development, Microsoft has chosen to upgrade its most potent AI model. Copilot will now employ the GPT-4 Turbo for all its users, building on the foundation of the GPT-4 model. This feature, which was previously available for a fee, will now be offered at no cost.
GPT-4 Turbo becomes accessible with Copilot
Previously accessible through a $20 per month Copilot Pro subscription, Copilot, based on OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo model, has now been made available to free users as well. This update, enhancing the standard GPT-4 model to GPT-4 Turbo for its free user base, was announced by Microsoft’s Head of Advertising and Web Services, Mikhail Parakhin.
GPT-4 Turbo introduces a significantly expanded command window, capable of handling up to 300 pages, which facilitates longer and more complex interactions with Copilot. This upgrade substantially enhances the experience for free users. Meanwhile, Pro subscribers have the option to toggle between GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo via the app settings.
This shift follows Microsoft’s previous announcement in December to incorporate GPT-4 Turbo into Copilot, initially starting with the paid tier. Making the model free represents a notable enhancement to this popular AI tool.
Furthermore, following the launch of the Pro version, Microsoft recently confirmed that the Copilot GPT Builder feature would be available to members of this service, fulfilling a promise made last week. This feature empowers users to create tailored AI models for specific tasks without requiring software development skills.
