Google first launched the Earthquake Alert System for Android phones in 2020, and it quickly became one of the most vital features for its life-saving capabilities. This system is especially useful for people living in earthquake-prone regions, like us, as it sends early warnings to devices about earthquakes.
Now, there’s a significant development regarding Android’s earthquake alert system. Google has announced that the system now supports smartwatches, including Samsung’s Galaxy Watches. This means smartwatch owners can now receive real-time earthquake alerts directly on their wrists. All WearOS smartwatches will be able to provide earthquake alerts.
Popular smartwatch models like Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7, Watch 6, and Watch 5, which run on the WearOS operating system, will now be able to issue earthquake alerts. It’s important to note that the system will also work on all other watches using the WearOS system, not just Samsung. You don’t need to do anything extra to activate these alerts. The feature will be integrated into watches with Google’s Play Services version 25.21 for WearOS.
Once your smartwatch completes the update, you’ll be able to start using the earthquake alert system. If you want to ensure the feature has arrived, go into your device’s settings and check for a software update; if one is available, install it.
