Following the AI-powered live translation and language practice features, Google Translate has started offering a Gemini-powered option for better translation.
Offering Enhanced and Fast Translation Options
Users can now select the “Enhanced” or “Fast” translation options from the selector located right below the “Google Translate” logo at the top of the application. The Enhanced option, which is selected by default, offers higher accuracy for complex translations, while the Fast option will provide a quicker translation, as before. Google notes that the enhanced model is only supported for certain languages.
It is not yet known whether this feature is free or paid. There is no indication on the interface that it is paid. Still, like other model selectors, it might be tied to a Google AI Pro subscription. Currently, this feature has started appearing on some iOS devices, but it is not yet active in the Android version.
Google had announced in August that Gemini models in Translate made significant improvements in translation quality, multimodal translation, and Text-to-Speech (TTS) capabilities. Furthermore, at the end of September, it added Control Center widgets for Camera, Text Translation, Dictation, and Conversation modes to Google Translate for iOS.
