Google’s plans to develop AI-based smart glasses focus on its discussions with EssilorLuxottica, which controls a significant portion of the eyewear market and has also collaborated with Meta. EssilorLuxottica, which is also in talks with Meta to buy a minority stake, stands out as a logical partner for Google. Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses

Meta, which has been collaborating with EssilorLuxottica for a long time, has developed smart glasses under the Ray-Ban brand. These glasses have recently attracted attention for being equipped with an artificial intelligence assistant. With built-in cameras, these glasses have an AI assistant that can see what the user sees, hear what they hear, and provide effective answers to questions

Capabilities of the artificial intelligence assistant

Ray-Ban smart glasses, which have gained an advanced artificial intelligence assistant thanks to their new infrastructure, can translate texts seen by the user and identify objects, plants, animals, or buildings. Additionally, they can start video recordings, take photos, play music, or send voice messages via WhatsApp. These glasses also feature the ability to make video calls via WhatsApp or broadcast live on Instagram. They are available in new frame colors as well.

This possible partnership between Google and EssilorLuxottica is being followed with great interest in the technology world. Google’s goal of bringing Gemini AI to a wider audience can be realized with such innovative projects.
