Men show great interest in generative AI courses
While the generative AI boom technically began with the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, its impact was most strongly felt in 2023. Consequently, Coursera experienced a surge in enrollments for generative AI content in 2023, reaching a record rate of one enrollment per minute. This trend continued into 2024, with four enrollments per minute in generative AI courses.
Among users who reported their age, millennials made up 56 percent, dominating the student demographic and leading other generations. Gen Xers followed with 22 percent, Gen Z with 18 percent, and Boomers with 4 percent. The data also revealed that men were more likely to enroll in generative AI courses compared to women, with a ratio of 72 percent to 28 percent.
