OpenAI has announced a delay in the much-anticipated improved voice mode for ChatGPT. Originally intended for Plus members, the feature is now expected to be available at least a month later than planned.
OpenAI recently introduced its new language model, GPT-4, at an event held a few months ago. During the same event, they also mentioned the forthcoming enhancements to ChatGPT’s voice mode. This improved mode is designed to offer a significantly more human-like interaction experience, with demo presentations that left audiences highly impressed. While many features introduced at the event have already been made available to users, the promised new voice mode has yet to be released. Today, OpenAI announced that the release of this feature has been postponed.
Postponed for at least a month
According to OpenAI’s statement, the new voice mode was initially planned to be offered to a small test group of ChatGPT Plus members by the end of June. However, this has now been postponed for a month.
The company explained that it needs at least another month to meet its goals. They aim to enhance the ability to detect and remove certain content and have prepared the necessary infrastructure to ensure a smooth user experience when millions begin using it.
As previously mentioned, when the mode is released, it will be tested by a small group to gather feedback. Following this testing phase, improvements will be made before expanding access to more users. OpenAI plans for all Plus subscribers to have access to the voice mode by the fall. Free-tier users will continue using the current audio mode. The exact release date of the new mode remains to be seen.
