In short, this feature works by allowing you to talk to ChatGPT (GPT-4) while doing other things at the same time. This new feature, called “Background Chat,” can be enabled in the audio mode section of the settings. Once enabled, you can start chatting with the voice assistant of your choice (except Sky).
The Background Chat feature is in preparation for the launch of GPT-4 Voice, which OpenAI unveiled at its spring event and will be released in the coming weeks. So, what is GPT-4 Voice? Thanks to the Background Chat feature, ChatGPT-4 Voice can continue working even when you exit the application, use another app, or when the screen is off. For iPhone users, it’s possible to access ChatGPT Voice by tapping on the dynamic candidate while in another app.
Your chats continue naturally with Background Chat as if you were inside the app. Of course, there may be a slight delay between responses, but overall, it offers a pretty smooth experience. And there’s more… You can use it to ask questions or get ideas while working on a document.
