Arizona State University (ASU), one of the largest public universities in the United States, is planning to enter the Metaverse and Web3 ecosystems.
The university is exploring the use of NFTs for sports videos, event tickets, and certificates. Trademark filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) indicate ASU’s intentions to incorporate NFTs into its future initiatives, including holding conferences in virtual reality.
ASU aims to publish digital collections at internal events and on its campus for students, with NFTs showcasing major sporting events expected to be part of the initiative.
The university also plans to run virtual classrooms, meetings, and other projects in the Metaverse. This move aligns with the broader trend of educational institutions exploring opportunities in virtual spaces and the Metaverse.
