Amazon CEO on AI: Impact on Software Developers’ Jobs

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy highlighted the efficiency of the company’s artificial intelligence technologies in terms of time and productivity.

He specifically mentioned Amazon’s AI assistant, Amazon Q, as a significant contributor to these improvements. In a recent article, Jassy discussed the future potential of artificial intelligence and its transformative capabilities.


“With Amazon Q, 50 days of work is down to a few hours”

In a LinkedIn post, CEO Andy Jassy highlighted how integrating Amazon Q into the company’s internal systems has streamlined essential software updates. He noted that tasks that previously took software developers 50 days can now be completed in just a few hours.

Jassy described this shift in business time as a “game changer.” He stated that the AI assistant would save the equivalent of 4,500 developer years of work.

Beyond saving time, Amazon Q has also enhanced security and reduced infrastructure costs. Jassy estimated that the AI-powered software could generate $260 million in annual earnings. He acknowledged that tools like Amazon Q can significantly boost the productivity of development teams.

In his post, Jassy stated, “One of Amazon Q’s key roles is assisting with tedious but necessary software update tasks. It facilitates transitions between old and new versions of programming languages and frameworks like Java.”

Amazon plans to continue optimizing its AI, with the goal of expanding its capabilities to further assist developers.
