Pedigree and BBDO New York help dogs waiting for their new homes in Decentraland

In US shelters, where the number of stray dogs has increased after the pandemic, only one out of every two dogs can find a new home. Pedigree and its agency BBDO New York, which intend to adopt more dogs, are opening up to a new universe, the metaverse, to increase this rate.

The FOSTERVERSE program, which the duo implemented based on the fact that not everyone has the opportunity to own a dog in real life, offers metaverse users new options to help homeless dogs.

Under the program, Decentraland property owners can foster a real shelter dog in their virtual property. Those who wish can bring 3D avatars of real dogs waiting for their new owners to their property in Adopt a Pet , everyone in Decentraland can interact with these dogs; They can learn their stories, ages, ownership status. Owners or not, anyone can adopt these dogs they met on the metaverse in real life or donate to the Pedigree Foundation to help dogs.

Those who host dogs on Decentraland properties are also given a virtual apparel NFT, indicating their contribution to the program. Pedigree will also donate an additional $100,000 to shelters through its foundation.

Jean-Paul Jansen, Vice President of Marketing for Mars Petcare North America, said: “As the first brand to bring adoptable dogs to the metaverse, we are proud to be at the forefront of this new virtual reality that supports our goal of ending pet homelessness. The Peidgree brand and the Peidgree Foundation have been supporting animal shelters and promoting dog adoption for many years. “This program offers a new way for people to help dogs in need through virtual care.”
