The Collins Dictionary, based in the UK, has named “artificial intelligence” (AI) as its Word of the Year for 2023.
As reported by The Guardian, Alex Beecroft of Collins Dictionary observed that artificial intelligence rapidly emerged as a leading topic this year, seamlessly integrating into our everyday lives in a remarkably brief timeframe.
The publisher also highlighted that the term “AI” experienced a fourfold increase in usage throughout the year. Defined by the dictionary as “the simulation of human intelligence by computer programs,” artificial intelligence stands at the forefront of technological discussion.
Additionally, “nepo baby” was another term recognized for its prevalence in this year’s linguistic landscape.
The release of ChatGPT in November 2022 ignited discussions about the application of this technology last year.
