Chinese company Ant Group has entered the AI-powered robotics competition, introducing its humanoid robot named R1 at tech expos. The Chinese technology company Ant Group has come to the forefront with its humanoid robot project. The company has joined the AI-powered robotics race by showcasing its robot, named R1, at international technology events.

R1, developed by a subsidiary of Ant Group, was first exhibited at the IFA 2025 fair in Berlin. During the event, the robot prepared a meal for the audience, serving shrimp. It then appeared on stage at the Inclusion 2025 conference in Shanghai.

The company states that the robot can be used not only in kitchens but also as a care robot in the healthcare sector or as a guide in tourism. A release date or price for the R1 has not yet been announced. The robot is currently being tested in community centers and restaurants, and its real-world performance remains uncertain. In a video that has been released, the robot is notably slow, taking its time even with simple tasks.

Ant Group’s R1 move, along with Tesla’s Optimus project, shows that competition in humanoid robots is accelerating. Developments in software and hardware will determine where this race will go.
